In the frame of the project, for increasing civil engagement on the scale of western Georgia, identifying community problems, preparing the petitions, initiating them in the Municipal Assemblies the meetings were held in more than 130 villages and communities of target municipalities, in which 2848 citizens were involved.

As the result of Joint work of the beneficiary and program personnel the tools needed for wooden engravings were financed for Akaki. According to him, everything started from the scratch from that day and new meaning returned to life. Akaki is currently employed, producing icons, accessories, jewelry items with purchased tools, being one of the main income source for him.

Five-member family living in one of the villages of Imereti region  is living under hard social conditions, remaining without any social aid after imprisoning her husband,   being only at the expense of elderly pension from senior family members, though the old person is often ill, complaining that pension can hardly be sufficient for medicines.

Imprisoned persons often have to pay certain amount of sum for submitting official correspondence to Supreme Council of Ajara A.R. As verified by the Commission of Protecting Human Rights, the above-mentioned issue represent a serious problem for the inmates and their family members, which is indicated by the lack of correspondence recently received from Prison.

Working on two petitions out of three new petitions referred in 2017 is stills continued in Ozurgeti Municipality.
Review results of the petitions initiated during 2016-2017 in the frame of the project “Petition – People’s Voice in the Self-Governance”, the drawbacks identified in practice were the issues on which the meetings were held in Lanchkhuti, Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti Municipality.

61-year old Amiran is a driver, having been employed on the cargo transport in Russian during years, having high salary and earning sufficient income for the family. Though, later as the result was drug-addiction has changed everything. He returned to Georgia, where due to his bad habit, family conflict became were frequent, which was also added by a heavy disease of his son. For covering his medical expenses he was forced to sell the house, remaining homeless, though failing to save his son’s life.

The family is socially unprotected. Zurab (name is conditional) has a wife and two minor children. For searching incomes for the family he has left for Turkey, though due to health state he failed to work physically and returned back home. His health problem started during his imprisonment period.    After being released from prison, he has undergone treatment and became healthier, though he still has difficult with physical work, therefore he cannot perform all types of work.
