In 2017 Lanchkhuti Municipal Assembly satisfied one out of four petitions issues, still continuing to work on one petitions, whereas two of them are not still considered in the budget.
Almost identical situation is faced in Chokhatauri Municipality, where out of four referred petitions two were not satisfied by the Municipality last year, two of them being considered as eligible.
Working on two petitions out of three new petitions referred in 2017 is stills continued in Ozurgeti Municipality.
Review results of the petitions initiated during 2016-2017 in the frame of the project “Petition – People’s Voice in the Self-Governance”, the drawbacks identified in practice were the issues on which the meetings were held in Lanchkhuti, Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti Municipality.
Implementation issue of the recommendations referred in 2017 as well as still existing drawbacks were also discussed in the format of the working meeting.
The parties talked about the necessity of practical application of the system of electronic referral of petitions in several municipalities, as well as raising public awareness upon these services.
Meeting participants got introduced with the recommendations by the Institute of Democracy upon correcting the drawbacks existing in the regulation of the Municipal Assembly. Similar type of working meetings are also continued in Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti municipalities.
Project “Petition – People’s Voice in the Self-Governance” has been implemented by the Institute of Democracy in cooperation with partner organizations since 2017 with the financial support from USAID.
