Free Ophthalmic examination of prisoners

Today, at the Seafarers’ Medical Centre, a joint Medical Action by the Institute of Democracy and Ministry of Health and Social Care of Ajara Autonomous republic was organized. In the frame of the Action, former inmates, probationers and inmates’ family members were delivered free medical ophthalmological examination.

The medicines and optical glasses prescribed by the doctor-ophthalmologist will be purchased by the Institute of Democracy in the frame of the project supporting former inmates, inmates’ families and probationers. 16 beneficiaries participated in the Medical Action. Similar Medical Action is also planned for former inmates in Guria, Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti and Imereti region.

The project supporting former inmates, inmates’ families and probationers is being implemented by the Institute of Democracy, Guria Youth Resource Center, Tanaziari and Foundation “Abkhazinterkont”. Project foreseen activities also consider re-socialization of former inmates, inmates’’ family members and probationers in the above-mentioned regions.

The Ministry of Health and Social Care of Ajara A/R is an active supporter of the Program of Resocialization. Free medical action for former inmates was held for former inmates with the support of the Ministry last year.
