He has been leading the family and coping with existential problems on his own. The mother of two juvenile children is still happy, patiently waiting for her husband’s release from custody, saying that everything is God’s will and doing her best to take care of her Children.
Five-member family living in one of the villages of Imereti region is living under hard social conditions, remaining without any social aid after imprisoning her husband, being only at the expense of elderly pension from senior family members, though the old person is often ill, complaining that pension can hardly be sufficient for medicines.
We have passed rather hard years, my husband suffering from hard healthcare problems after imprisonment. He has difficulty to independently move, my mother in low being frequently ill, with person hardly sufficient for medicines. We have been deprived of social aid, leading us to hard situation, being remained at the expense of neighbors and close relatives, which was rather difficult” – says inmate’s husband.
Otar (name is conditional) has been serving sentence at Geguti Prison for 6 years. He is an architect, working in the yard of one of the cathedrals, upon completion of the work he had a car accident, after which he did not hide, taking the sufferer to hospital, though with the failure to save.

He has three more years to serve, having mastered making icons and crests in prison, spending time there. He often sends handmade items to family, having no other mans to assist them.
Recently, inmate’s family prepared an official act of appeal with the support of the project for strengthening former inmates. The family hopes for the positive response.
Inmate’s family living under hard social conditions was involved in re-socialization program. In the project framework, with the support of Foundation “Abkhazinterkont” the family has purchased a sewing machine, having been created small income in parallel to family business.
Inmate’s juvenile children were also involved in the rehabilitation and re-socialization program, having participated in the New Year Event at the Entertainment Center. As inmate’s wife thinks similar encouraging days can changes one’s life for better, especially filling juveniles hope for better.
Project for strengthening former inmates considers rehabilitation and re-socialization of former inmates and their family members. The project is implemented with EU-support by the Institute of Democracy in cooperation partner organizations in four regions of Georgia.
