Moped Master Beneficiary

Since 2010, after being released from custody, he has been assembling and repairing the scooters. Giorgi spent 3.5 year in Prison. 35-year old Giorgi Tordia is a former inmate, living in Zugdidi and mainly occupied with repair-assembly of the mopeds. Spending the whole day in workshop, he is mainly interested in mopeds.

Currently, many people are using the mopeds for transportation in Georgia. Due to economy, available price and the fact that driving license is no longer needed for driving, moped is becoming more and more popular.

Though, out of the virtues listed above, it is necessary to take into account the dangers which can be faced while driving the moped, unless we follow safety rules.

I have always had a moped, initially only Russian, later colored, European models and currently, I have three various types of mopeds. Some of them are practical for moving around the city, whereas other sow travelling at longer distances –m says Giorgi Tordia.

He has even visited Batumi, Martvili Canyon and Svaneti on his moped with friends. It takes 4 hours to drive from Zugdidi to Batumi on a moped (with breaks). Whereas, for passing 100 km only three liter petrol is required.

Giorgi’s workshop is the only site to repair any damaged moped in Zugdidi.

Giorgi advises the individuals interested with the mopeds not to get hurried while learning to drive on a moped and drive it as slowly as possible, as well as to be equipped with helmet, knee- and elbow-pads.

Giorgi is a beneficiary of the Foundation “Tanaziari” acting in Samegrelo, being involved in the project for strengthening former inmates in cooperation with the Institute of Democracy.

With the support of the Program, Giorgi purchased the tools for moped workshop and his future plans are also related to the mopeds. He is planning to assemble mopeds for the children and adults, rent them and increase his income.

Giorgi thinks that Moped Park will make Zugdidi livelier.
