Petitions initiated by the citizens considered in Keda Municipality

Within the frame of the Institute of Democracy project “Petition – People’s Voice in the Self-governance” five petitions initiated by the citizens were presented to Keda Municipal Council.

Petition initiator citizens requested:

1.Arrangement of signboards in the villages and settlement of Keda Municipality
There are no signboards indicating the addresses in the villages, settlement and territorial units located on the territory of Keda Municipality despite of the fact that according to the electronic data by the Civil Register’s Service, majority of the electorate registered in Keda Municipality have not defined registered legal addresses (street, alley). Relevantly, for foreign tourists and citizens living in Georgia it is difficult to find specific sites. Leaving this issue unsettled in most cases creates problems for delivering post parcels to the addressee, as well as for first aid and rescue services.
2.To refurbish the yards of all Public Kindergartens on the territory of Keda Municipality ad equip with relevant infrastructure
There are no sport and entertainment squares refurbished on the territory of kindergartens in Keda Municipality. To ensure safety conditions for the children rubber piles are laid on neither the ground, nor any entertainment constructions are arranged.
Refurbishment of kindergarten yard considers creating a living environment necessary for favorable development of the children.

3.To allocate the sites for parking on the territory of Keda settlement, to arrangement relevant infrastructure and to launch relevant procedures

The issue of parking on the on the territory of Keda settlement is rather actual, as the number of the cars is daily increased; the situation is particularly difficult in summer, when the number of visitors is significantly increased within the municipality. Local residents often have to park cars at distance from their residential and employment sites. This problem is causes with the reason that no area is allocated for parking and there are not sites equipped with relevant infrastructure.

4.To arrangement road safety mirrors on the territory of on the territory of Keda (to create relevant infrastructure)

There are no artificial banners and road signs limiting the speed in the extreme turning sites on the automobile road on the territory of Keda, no safety mirror are arranged, which considerably increases the risk of car accidents.

Out of 20 municipalities in project target three regions of Georgia (Ajara, Guria, Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti) only one municipality has the practice of settling the issue in the form of a municipality.
The representatives of self-governance welcome civic activation and express readiness to cooperate upon settlement of specific issues within the competence of Municipal Council. The Institute of Democracy in cooperation with partner organizations expresses willingness to strengthen civic activation with joint cooperation.
