Representatives of The Institute of Democracy and the Batumi City Council met to discuss the project “Petition-People’s Voice in Self Governance”.
The festival of Heretoba was held in Lagodekhi Municipality. The festival is held annually, where Georgian folklore, traditional dishes and exhibitions of various handicrafts are presented. People of various nationalities and resettled eco-migrants living in the municipalities are involved in the event.
Training participants expressed a particular interest towards learning the development of the Business Plan. Relevantly, they were delivered a theoretical as well as practical course upon developing a business Plan and implementing Business Ideas.
"Keep Smiling! Old Age is Wonderful"- was the mood of the International Day of the Elderly, organized by the Institute of Democracy for the Institute's and the Red Cross' beneficiaries.
With the support of the Institute of Democracy NGO functioning in Sagarejo municipality “Women for the Future” is implementing a project which considers raising the awareness degree of the citizens living in five communities of Sagarejo Municipality settled with eco-migrant (Udabno, Giorgi Tsminda, Patardzeuli, Khamshi).
The eco-migrants were regularly resettled from Ajara into Samtskhe-Javakheti Region, in particular Adigeni Municipality. Rural agriculture is a basic means of existence for eco-migrants, though they have to live under hard social conditions.
The Institute of Democracy supports strengthening of starter NGOs and Initiative groups working on eco-migration issues. Lanchkhuti Information Center was financed within the frame of the project supported by the European Union “Campaign for Advocacy of Eco-migrant and potential eco-migrant families”.
The representatives of local government, as well as local media will be actively involved at all phases of project implementation. The trainings on the eco-migration issues are planned for journalists.
“We have addressed to local municipality with the request of returning the property, though their answer is still unknown” – claims one of the sufferer Irodion Geladdze. The Institute of Democracy met with the representatives of Khulo Municipal Council and Hall and recommended to return the lands “granted” the municipality back to suffering citizens.
In Zugdidi Municipality, within the frame of the Institute of Democracy Project a public discussion of the petitions initiated by Zugdidi residents was arranged. The project “People’s Voice in the Self-Governance”
